Peter Hallman Memorial Tournament

Peter Hallman was a highly respected individual whose leadership capabilities benefited a wide variety of business, philanthropic and sporting organizations. He constantly took the initiative to be fully involved in his community. From the KW and Area United Way and the KW Hospital Board, to his job with Hallman Construction, to his many sporting endeavours and much more Peter was the consummate entrepreneur and the competitive spirit that drove the many successes he had in his life. Even his unsuccessful ventures were viewed by him as opportunities for
growth from the learnings gained.

Unfortunately, Peter tragically passed away at the age of 48 in a
motorcycle accident in Northeastern Ontario on June 22nd, 1999.

One of Peter’s main passions was the sporting world of fastball/softball/baseball and it was a big part of his life. As a player, coach, sponsor and fan Peter made his mark on the sport.
He played in many leagues and was a highly competitive player.
He loved to coach. He was involved as a coach in the Rural league. He loved coaching youth encouraging them to play fair and ensuring all got a chance to play. His knowledge of the game, his competitive spirit, his ability to have respect while pushing players to their potential and his full commitment to bringing out the best in the team and the individuals yielded tremendous results both on and off the field.  He sponsored the Waterloo Hallman Twins Senior Men’s Fastball team, the Waterloo Midget fastball team, the Kitchener Kieswetters woman’s team
and many Minor Softball teams.  He was not an absentee sponsor by any means – always the ultimate supporter. He simply loved the game and would frequently be in the stands
to cheer his teams on.

To honour Peter’s commitment to strengthening this sport in so many ways, his integrity and respect he held in the community and his love of the game, a tournament dedicated to his memory was first established by the Waterloo Chymrs  in 2000, then as the Legends of Fastball Tournament, and finally as the Peter Hallman Memorial Tournament since 2014.

Peter was also honoured by the city of Kitchener in April of 2009 by naming their best 3 ball diamond complex on Hayward Avenue in Kitchener the Peter Hallman Ballyard. It is considered one of the premier tournament complexes in North America and has been home to many International Softball Congress World Championships, Softball Canada championships, local tournaments of course the annual Peter Hallman Memorial Fastball tournament.

This years’ Peter Hallman Memorial Tournament will take place July 26 – 28.
